Nissan Altima Hybrid Battery – Professional Diagnostics, Replacement, and Installation

The Nissan Altima Hybrid, produced between 2007 and 2011, was Nissan’s first foray into hybrid technology for the mid-size sedan market. Based on Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive system under a licensing agreement, the Altima Hybrid combined a 2.5L gasoline engine with an electric drive motor and a 245V Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH) battery pack. This battery is essential to the vehicle’s regenerative braking system, electric assist, and idle-stop functionality.

As one of the earliest hybrid systems integrated into a Nissan chassis, the Altima Hybrid’s battery operates under demanding thermal and electrical conditions. Degradation typically presents after 10+ years or 100,000+ miles, though usage patterns and climate can significantly accelerate wear. Common signs of battery failure include erratic engine cycling, loss of electric drive mode, diminished fuel economy, and hybrid warning lights.

Our facility specializes in Nissan Altima Hybrid battery replacements, offering fully reconditioned battery packs tailored to the vehicle’s original system architecture. Each replacement unit is assembled using matched cells, resistance-balanced modules, and tested under load to simulate real driving conditions. Batteries are verified for state of charge (SOC) alignment and thermal stability prior to release.

Unlike modern hybrids with lithium-ion systems, the Altima’s battery relies on active air cooling. During installation, we inspect and service all ducting and fan assemblies, which are often obstructed or degraded with age. Poor airflow can lead to thermal hotspots and premature battery failure – an avoidable outcome when addressed during installation.

We offer in-shop and mobile installation services depending on location and safety requirements. The hybrid battery is positioned in the trunk area, requiring careful removal of interior panels and connection to the vehicle’s battery ECU and power inverter. Post-installation, the system undergoes a full scan and relearn procedure, resetting any hybrid-related diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and validating current-voltage performance. Our diagnostic reports are available upon request and include module-level readouts for customer reference.
